At the event ceremony of the second "Torch Innovation Week" held at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia some time ago, it was announced that according to the test report provided by the Australian National Testing Center, the newly launched graphene-copper composite conductor, and the currently commonly used pure copper conductor with the same cross-section, were subjected to multiple groups of comparative tests. The results showed that the resistivity of the graphene-copper composite conductor decreased by 3.8%, which is the world's first new technology.

Two years ago, the Ministry of Science and Technology of China signed a contract with the University of New South Wales in Australia to establish the first "Torch Innovation Park" outside of China at the University of New South Wales. The research and development of "using graphene to improve the conductivity of power cables" is one of the research and development projects. On April 24 this year, the State Intellectual Property Office of China granted the invention patent of "Graphene Core Electric Conductor and Its Preparation Method" to relevant persons.

At this "Torch Innovation Week" event ceremony, they signed the research and development contract for the second phase of the project. This also shows that the China-Australia cooperative graphene cable research and development project has made substantial progress and will continue to deepen cooperative research and development. Professor Sean Lee of the University of New South Wales, the project's chief scientist, said that the research results show that the combination of graphene and copper through a special process can effectively utilize the high conductivity of graphene at room temperature to reduce the resistivity of the wire, thereby improving the conductivity of the composite wire. The 3.8% resistance reduction achieved so far is not the ultimate goal of research and development, and there is still a lot of room for improvement in the future. The method adopted in the research and development route is that ordinary graphite raw materials are used in the composite process. After being made through a special process, high-purity graphene has been clearly detected in the wire through Raman spectroscopy. This process route uses a low-cost source of raw materials, which reduces the amount of copper while improving conductivity, and its economic efficiency is very considerable.

The construction of the "graphene pilot production line" has begun in July this year, and it is expected to be put into operation in December. This is really another milestone in the wire and cable industry. my country is a major country in the wire and cable industry. The main breakthrough in development is to have an innovative consciousness under the premise of ensuring the quality and quantity of existing products. Innovation is the only way out for the sustainable development of enterprises.
